Circle of Security Parenting

There is no such thing as a baby, there is only a baby and someone.
— Donald Winnicott, M.D.

As parents, we try to combine our experience of how we were parented with our intuition and the advice from others. Yet, despite this combination of wisdom, we still find ourselves wondering at times if we’re getting it right.

I feel so lucky that during my career I was trained to be a parent educator by one of the founders of The Circle of Security® Parenting™ program, Kent Hoffman. Having taught The Circle of Security® Parenting™ program to many parents throughout my career, I frequently refer to it as a mother myself.

Founded in over fifty years of attachment theory and research, the Circle of Security® Parenting™ program provides a roadmap for us to understand and meet our child's needs in any given moment.

What I love so much about this program is that it's intuitive and about being present over perfect so when we're faced with challenging moments as parents and caregivers, we can easily use this as our guide, secure in the knowledge that we're genuinely acting in our child's best interests

Understanding how to meet your child’s need around the circle and recognise your “Shark Music” helps you to feel confident in your ability to set limits while understanding your child’s emotional world, and respond in a way that provides them with a secure base so they feel confident to explore the world, and return for comfort when needed.

The Circle of Security® Parenting™ team have also written a book called ‘Raising a Secure Child’ which is an incredible resource for learning more in self-help form.

While a list of Circle of Security® Parenting™ Facilitators is listed on their website it’s not exclusive, many of the incredible Facilitators I know aren’t listed there so be sure to ask for recommendations from friends, MACH Nurses, your GP and others in your area if you’d like to attend a group and learn The Circle of Security® in depth.
